Jizan, June 27, 2026, SPA -- The Jazan Branch of the National Research and Development Center for Sustainable Agriculture (Estidamah), in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), organized a workshop entitled 'Community Seed Bank in Jazan Region.' This initiative is part ofongoing efforts to conserve plant genetic resources and promote the sustainability of the agricultural sector, in partnership with the Reef National Foundation. The two-day workshop aims to empower and support farmers in preserving and exchanging local seeds of agricultural and economic value, thereby contributing to the preservation of agricultural biodiversity and the conservation of local varieties adapted to different environmental conditions. Participants emphasized the importance of establishing and developing community seed banks as effective tools for promoting food security and sustainable agricultural production by preserving plant genetic resources, ensuring their continued availability for future generations. The workshop reviewed several experiences and practices in seed preservation, documentation, and exchange, and discussed ways to enhance the participation of farmers and the local community in efforts to conserve agricultural diversity.
