Under Al Jalila Foundation's ‘The Hope Fund' Khalaf Al Habtoor Expands Support to Dubai Hospital, Bringing Total Contribution to Kidney Care Beyond AED 19 Million

Commits additional support exceeding AED 9 million to expand and complete the development of the nephrology department

Dubai, UAE - 01 May 2026. Emirati Businessman Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, Founding Chairman of Al Habtoor Group, visited Dubai Hospital today, where he toured the newly renovated Kidney Care Pavilion. The facility was established through the generosity of the late Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi Fund, managed by Khalaf Al Habtoor, under ‘The Hope Fund’ initiative of Al Jalila Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dubai Health. The initiative plays a key role in advancing Dubai Health’s vision of improving human health through an integrated model encompassing care, learning, discovery, and giving.

During the visit, Al Habtoor was accompanied by senior representatives from Al Habtoor Group and was received by Dubai Health leadership, including His Excellency Dr Amer Sharif, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Health and President of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences; Dr Abdulla Al Khayat, Honourary Chief Executive Officer of Al Jalila Children’s Hospital; Dr Amer Al Zarooni, Chief Executive Officer of Al Jalila Foundation; and Dr Omar Al Marzouqi, along with a number of Dubai Health senior officials.

This support comes as part of Al Habtoor’s ongoing contributions to the healthcare sector. His total support for kidney care services at Dubai Hospital has now exceeded AED 19 million, reflecting a sustained and evolving commitment to strengthening healthcare capacity in the UAE.

This contribution includes allocating more than AED 8 million to fully renovate the nephrology unit, announcing a new commitment exceeding AED 9 million to support the expansion of the nephrology department, contributing to the completion and full operational readiness of the ninth floor at Dubai Hospital, in addition to ongoing support for patient treatment through the funding of 4,000 dialysis sessions annually.

During 2025, this support contributed to funding 2,179 dialysis sessions for eligible patients. Since the opening of the Kidney Care Pavilion on 8 April 2026, the pavilion has served 887 patients, reflecting the direct impact of this support in enhancing continuity of treatment and alleviating the burden on patients and their families.

The upgraded Kidney Care Pavilion provides advanced services in nephrology and urology, contributing to improving the quality of healthcare and expanding the range of services provided.

This initiative combines the development of healthcare infrastructure (through renovation and expansion) with sustainable treatment funding, ensuring the provision of immediate care to patients and strengthening the healthcare system over the long term. The Kidney Care Pavilion at Dubai Hospital represents a model of specialised care facilities that provide comprehensive care for kidney patients, enhancing the hospital’s capacity through advanced dialysis services, as well as specially equipped rooms for patient care and post-session follow-up. The pavilion has been designed to provide a treatment environment that ensures comfort and privacy for patients, offering advanced care under the direct supervision of specialists, along with close monitoring following kidney transplant procedures, contributing to enhancing their experience across all stages of care.

Following his visit to the newly renovated pavilion, Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor said: “Supporting healthcare is not only a responsibility, it’s an investment in human dignity. I am proud to contribute to national healthcare institutions that serve our community, and of the Emirati medical professionals who provide world-class healthcare services. Our goal is to ensure that every patient in need receives the treatment they require, while supporting and developing the healthcare system for future generations.

For his part, HE Dr Amer Sharif said: “This support reflects the importance of community partnerships and confirms the role of donors as key partners in the development of the healthcare sector, through enhancing our capabilities to expand healthcare services and facilitate access to them, in line with our vision of advancing human health.”

He added: “I extend my thanks to Mr Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor for his visit and continued support, which presents an inspiring model of charitable work in supporting our healthcare system.”

Dr Amer Al Zarooni said: “Giving constitutes a fundamental pillar in enabling patients to access the care they need, particularly in cases that require continuous treatment. The support of businessman Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor for the Kidney Care Pavilion at Dubai Hospital represents an advanced model reflecting the vital role of charitable work in supporting patients’ treatment journeys and improving their quality of life, through the provision of highly efficient specialised services, in line with Dubai Health’s ‘Patient First’ commitment.”

Dr. Omar Mohammed Al Marzouqi said: “The development of the Kidney Care Pavilion at Dubai Hospital represents a qualitative addition that enhances the specialised services provided to kidney patients, as it has been equipped with advanced medical technologies that contribute to improving the quality of care and enhancing the patient experience, in line with international best practices.”

This initiative reflects a growing direction toward impact-driven philanthropy, as it contributes to supporting the healthcare sector, ensuring continuity of treatment, and enhancing the infrastructure of the national healthcare system. By combining treatment funding with the development of healthcare facilities, this initiative establishes an advanced model of sustainable healthcare support in the region.
