Cold Weather Brings Northern Borders Residents Back to Memories of Ramadan in Winter More Than 34 Years Ago

Turaif, February 22, 2026, SPA -- Northern Borders Region is witnessing a noticeable drop in temperatures with the advent of this year’s holy month of Ramadan, as Turaif recorded 4°C, Arar recorded 9°C, and Rafha registered 10°C, according to data from the National Center of Meteorology.

Cold weather is expected to persist until the end of the holy month, with forecasts indicating temperatures may drop to zero degrees. Ramadan coincides with the late winter season, so temperatures are lower than in previous years.

Some observers noted that Ramadan will continue to fall in winter until 1454 AH, then shift to autumn from 1455 AH to 1462 AH, and then to summer between 1463 AH and 1471 AH.

These conditions have revived memories among many residents of the region, especially the elderly, of more than three decades ago, when Ramadan occurred in winter for about eight years from 1413 AH to 1420 AH. They fondly recall moments such as breaking the fast at the sound of the cannon announcing sunset, as shorter daylight hours reduce fasting time and extend the hours of iftar.
