OMEGA and Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre Honour the Legacy of the First Moon Landing

August 06, Dubai, UAE: To mark the anniversary of the first Moon landing, OMEGA has unveiled a new exhibition at MBRSC in partnership with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), celebrating the UAE’s remarkable achievements in space exploration alongside the enduring legacy of the iconic OMEGA Speedmaster.

At the heart of the exhibition are key milestones in the UAE’s space exploration journey, showcased through MBRSC’s lunar rover exhibition and the UAE Astronaut Programme. Visitors will journey through defining moments, from Astronaut Hazzaa Al Mansoori’s historic Zayed Ambition 1 mission to the International Space Station in 2019 to Astronaut H.E. Dr. Sultan AlNeyadi’s record-breaking six-month Zayed Mission 2 during Expedition 69. Complementing this journey is the iconic OMEGA Speedmaster, whose contribution to humanity’s journey beyond Earth reflects the shared spirit of precision, innovation and exploration.

The exhibition builds on OMEGA’s longstanding partnership with MBRSC, which reached a defining milestone during the UAE’s longest Arab space mission, launched on 2 March 2023. Throughout his six-month mission aboard the International Space Station, Sultan wore OMEGA timepieces, reinforcing the brand’s role as the official timepiece of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.

H.E. Salem Humaid AlMarri, Director General, Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, said, "The first Moon landing remains one of humanity’s greatest achievements, demonstrating what can be accomplished through ambition, collaboration and scientific innovation. As the UAE continues to advance its own journey in space exploration, this exhibition in collaboration with OMEGA offers an opportunity to honour that historic legacy, celebrate Emirati achievements in space, and inspire future generations to contribute to the next chapter of exploration."

The Speedmaster - in continuous production since 1957 - is one of the most iconic watches in history. It was the first chronograph to feature its tachymeter on the bezel, the only watch flight-qualified by NASA in 1965, and the first worn on the Moon in 1969. From Wally Schirra’s 1962 Mercury mission to Buzz Aldrin on Apollo 11 and the crucial timing during Apollo 13, the Speedmaster’s legacy is inseparable from humanity’s greatest exploration milestones.

"The Speedmaster’s history is woven into the exploration of space - a testament to enduring precision, resilience and innovation. We are honoured to strengthen our partnership with MBRSC and to share the story of this iconic timepiece with the region, inspiring future generations to pursue exploration and discovery”, added Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA.

This July OMEGA has also launched a campaign celebrating five Speedmaster references that represent nearly seven decades of design, space heritage and mechanical mastery - reaffirming why the Speedmaster remains truly iconic.

Rivoli Group, OMEGA’s authorised partner in the UAE, anchors this collaboration regionally, bringing the Speedmaster collection to audiences across its boutique and retail network and helping bridge horology with space science for the local community.

Together, the MBRSC, OMEGA and Rivoli Group continue to celebrate the spirit of exploration, inspiring greater curiosity in science, innovation and the limitless possibilities of space across the UAE and the wider GCC.
