Cattle Egret Flocks Grace Najran Farms in Winter Migration

Najran, January 06, 2026, SPA -- Farms in Najran Region, along with the surrounding green areas of Wadi Najran, have seen an influx of cattle egret flocks as part of the Kingdom’s annual winter bird migration.

The cattle egret is a medium-sized white heron, recognized for its elegant appearance and long neck. Its body is covered in white feathers, complemented by a long, pointed, bright yellow beak and slender legs, which are typically black or dark gray.

Najran’s agricultural landscape, with its ponds, irrigation canals, and vast green spaces, offers a haven and abundant food sources, such as insects and small amphibians, for these birds during their stopover on the long journey to warmer regions.

Environmental experts highlight that ongoing monitoring of these species in Najran reflects the success of initiatives such as the Saudi Green Initiative, which have positioned the region as an essential global stopover on the international bird migration map.
